Malvika's Story
It started off as it does for most English majors: a love for reading. That quickly turned into a keen eye for reading between the lines and picking up patterns in writing styles, themes, and ideas.
After two Bachelor’s degrees in English and French from Mumbai, India, I decided to apply for a Master’s degree in a more visual literature - film. That was when I wrote my first ever application essay. Without a consultant, the writing process was stressful, but taught me a lot about editing myself, practicing concision, and communicating effectively. I got admitted to all 12 schools that I applied to.
After graduating from the University of Edinburgh with a Distinction, I began freelancing as an editor for my friends’ college applications. I joined Leverage Edu the year after, where my role as editorial associate quickly morphed into that of de facto editorial co-manager after the abrupt exit of my manager. My new responsibilities included managing the end-to-end editorial process for over 650 students and their multiple applications. Clients whose applications I’ve edited have been accepted to HBS, Oxford, Stanford, Columbia, MIT, NYU, Yale, Cambridge, INSEAD, and more.
I’ve been editing student applications for over 4 years now. I enjoy the challenge of transforming a story into a compelling essay that’s easy on AdCom eyes. At Sam Weeks Consulting, I also lend my critical eye to MBAConsultant.com, our self-guided online admissions consulting platform. That’s where I design bespoke application courses and offer essay editing services for applicants who want to work at their own pace.
